Shell Edging Photo How To Row 2
Photo tutorial continued from Row 1 Photos
Here is the next part:

The photo above shows (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) already made in the ch-3 space in the center of the previous shell. Following are the instructions for doing that part:
Row 2 Part 1: You are going to make a shell in the center of the shell that you made in Row 1. To get ready to do this, locate the 3 chains in the center of that shell (between the groups of double crochet). To begin, wrap the yarn over the hook, insert the hook through below those three chains and then wrap the yarn over the hook again, pull that loop through below the three chains, yarn over hook, pull through 2 loops, yarn over hook, pull through 2 loops (you just made a double crochet in the chain-3 space). If you didn’t know before what it meant to work in a chain space or to make stitches in a chain space, now you know, because you just did it.
So you have one double crochet made for the shell but you need more. So continue with: make 2 more double crochet, chain 3, 3 double crochet all made in that same chain-3 space.
The photo above shows (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) made in the ch-3 space in the center of the previous shell.
There are some markings on the photo above that will help you see where to do the next part.
There is an arrow pointing to Row 1, which was a short row made up of a shell (the same kind of shell that you just made in this row). You need to understand what Row 1 looks like because you are instructed to Skip Row 1 for the next part. Look at the photo above and you can see what part to skip.
Next you are going to be making a double crochet in a chain space. I put an orange dot on the photo above to show where that chain space is.
Row 2 Part 2: The photo below shows the double crochet (dc) made in that chain space. After you have made that double crochet in that chain space, then next, chain 4 (shown already made in the photo below). The next instruction is to Turn to be ready to do Row 3.

Copyright, Terms of Use: My photos shown in this post are copyrighted and are not to be published elsewhere without my express written permission (fyi: putting something on another blog or any other kind of web page is a form of publishing). This Sophie T. La Croix edging design is from the early 1900s, now in the public domain, however, I have rewritten the crochet instructions to be in modern crochet terms and I have added considerably to the very limited crochet instructions that were written in the early 1900s by Sophie T. LaCroix. The early 1900s pattern had one black and white photo of the finished item with no additional photos.
